The practice
Andrei makes theatre through movement, language and the stories people inherit. He grew up between Russian, Chinese and Singlish, and trained in Latin dance and Kathakali as seriously as in Shakespeare and Beckett. The work looks for one moment: when an unfamiliar life becomes recognisably human.

In his own words
“I will build stages where others can enter without disguising themselves at the threshold.”
Andrei’s college essay is written as the letter he wished he’d been given: a piano, a battered atlas, Pushkin read aloud, and a pink SCUBA set. It’s a coming-out story. More than that, it’s about what came after: growing comfortable in himself, and learning to share that self with the people around him. It’s also where his theatre comes from.
“I will leave the door unlatched for those who have only ever heard themselves described as noise.”
